Cookies and localStorage are different
A cookie is a small item of browser data that may be sent with requests to its associated website. LocalStorage is browser storage available to scripts for the same site origin; its contents are not automatically attached to each HTTP request. Similar privacy considerations can apply to both.
The site’s own JavaScript does not set cookies. It can save one local preference when you use the controls on this page. This edition includes no third-party advertising scripts, analytics scripts or embedded media that introduce optional tracking.

What your choice means
“Essential Only” records that you do not want optional storage. “Accept” records an acceptance preference, but does not activate any tracking because none is included in this edition. Neither choice is treated as permission for unspecified future tracking. If new optional technologies are introduced, their purposes should be explained and any required consent obtained before they run.

Browser and hosting controls
You can block or clear storage in your browser. Private browsing, storage restrictions and clearing site data can prevent a preference from persisting. The reading content remains available if storage is unavailable.
Server-side hosting and security configuration is separate from this static code. Technical request logs are not cookies, and the presence or retention of hosting logs cannot be determined from the preference stored here. See Information We Retain for that distinction.
